Project summary - MUGA Redevelopment
Absolute Play completed a full redevelopment of the school’s existing Multi Use Games Area, transforming a tired and unused space into a vibrant and fully functional sports facility.
The project included installation of a brand new tarmac sports surface, thermoplastic court markings and a full rebound fencing system with integrated goals, creating a professional-quality facility designed for everyday school use.
The brief
The school’s existing MUGA had become completely unusable due to surface failure, moss growth and poor original construction.
Key challenges included:
Failing and unsafe sports surfacing
Poor base construction
Overgrown and neglected surroundings
Limited available budget
Requirement for low long-term maintenance
The school wanted to restore the area and create a durable facility that could be used year-round.

Our solution
Our solution focused on delivering a complete rebuild of the MUGA facility while ensuring long-term durability and minimal maintenance.
The old surface, fencing and base works were fully removed and replaced with a new macadam sports court and modern rebound fencing system.
Key features
New macadam MUGA sports surface
3m high mesh rebound fencing system
Integrated football goals
Integrated basketball and netball provision
Thermoplastic football and netball court markings

Design approach:
The design prioritised durability, safety and long-term usability while keeping within the school’s available budget.
The new macadam sports surface provides a reliable and low-maintenance playing surface, while the rebound fencing creates a secure and fully enclosed sports facility.
The integrated goal and hoop system maximises the versatility of the space without requiring additional equipment.

Materials & surfacing
A new macadam sports surface was installed, providing a strong, free-draining and low-maintenance playing surface suitable for a wide range of sports.
This was complemented by a powder-coated mesh rebound fencing system, offering:
Long-term durability
Secure containment
Low maintenance requirements
Professional appearance
Thermoplastic court markings were applied to provide clear and long-lasting sports markings.

Installation
The project involved full removal of the existing failed surfacing, fencing and base works.
New excavation, sub-base installation and macadam surfacing were completed before installing the new fencing and court markings.
The works were delivered efficiently, completely transforming the area.
The outcome
The completed MUGA has brought this previously unused area back to life, creating a vibrant and valuable sports facility for the school.
Pupils now benefit from a safe, durable and engaging space for sports and active play.
Despite budget constraints, the project delivered a significant transformation and long-term solution.
