When you invest in timber playground equipment, you are really investing in how that timber is prepared before it ever reaches site.
At Absolute Play, every timber post and structural component used in our playgrounds and outdoor play spaces is specially manufactured and pressure treated for long-term outdoor use in schools, parks and leisure environments.
This guide explains how our timber is treated, why it performs so well outdoors and how we are able to offer 15- and 20-year timber warranties on round timbers.
Our timber treatment process – how it works

Our timber is protected using a controlled industrial pressure-treatment process designed to drive preservative deep into the structure of the wood, not just onto the surface.
The process follows five simple stages:
The timber is placed into a sealed treatment vessel and an initial vacuum removes air from the timber cells.
A modern water-based wood preservative is introduced under vacuum.
Hydraulic pressure forces the preservative deep into the timber.
A final vacuum removes excess solution from the surface.
The timber is then left to dry and stabilise before further manufacturing.
This gives long-term protection against rot, fungal decay, insect attack and constant exposure to wet and dry conditions.
Engineered round timber for playground structures
Use of engineered round timber components rather than untreated solid posts.
The timber is manufactured using a laminated construction process which:
reduces natural internal stresses in the wood
improves long-term stability
increases resistance to cracking and splitting
creates a smoother and more consistent finish
This is particularly important for playground equipment exposed to sunlight, temperature changes and year-round weather.
Sustainably sourced timber
All timber used in our playground equipment is produced from sustainably managed forestry sources and responsibly harvested softwood selected for its excellent treatment performance and structural behaviour.
Timber warranties – short and simple

Our standard timber specification carries a 15-year in-ground warranty when posts are installed directly into the ground.
A 20-year timber warranty is available when timber posts are installed using steel support feet with upgraded timber option
Why steel feet extend the life of timber playground equipment

Steel feet lift timber posts clear of direct contact with the ground and create a controlled connection between the timber and the concrete foundation.
This reduces long-term moisture exposure at the base of the post – the area most vulnerable to decay – and allows easier inspection and maintenance over the life of the playground.
What to expect from treated timber over time
Timber is a natural material and will change in appearance over time.
You may notice:
small surface cracks
slight movement as moisture levels change
gradual colour change as the timber weathers
These are normal characteristics and do not affect the structural performance of properly treated playground equipment.
Why timber remains a popular choice for playgrounds
Timber playground equipment continues to be widely chosen by schools, councils and leisure operators because it offers:
a natural, welcoming appearance
excellent compatibility with landscaped and natural play environments
strong sustainability credentials
proven long-term outdoor performance when correctly treated
Ready to explore timber playground equipment?
If you’re planning a new playground or upgrading an existing outdoor space, our team can help you choose the right timber structures, layouts and installation method to match your site, budget and long-term maintenance expectations.

If you’d prefer to talk it through, we’re happy to review your site, advise on timber options (including steel-foot upgrades), and provide a clear, no-pressure quotation.
This allows you to make confident decisions about timber play equipment that is designed to last, and backed by clear, long-term warranties.
