Playground Safety & Compliance
Playgrounds That Put Safety First
A playground should be a place where children feel free, confident and safe. At Absolute Play we design, install and maintain playgrounds that meet the strictest UK safety standards, giving schools, councils and communities complete peace of mind. Every piece of equipment, every surface and every installation decision is made with safety at the forefront, without ever losing sight of the fun and creativity that makes play so important.

Why Playground Safety Matters
Playgrounds are high-use environments where children run, climb, swing and explore. Without proper planning and compliance, they can quickly become hazardous. Poorly installed equipment, unsuitable surfacing or inadequate inspections put children at risk and leave schools and councils open to liability.
That’s why safety isn’t an afterthought — it’s built into every stage of our projects. By choosing Absolute Play, you ensure your playground is designed, installed and maintained to recognised safety benchmarks.
UK Playground Safety Standards
All of our playgrounds comply with:
-
BS EN 1176 — the European standard covering playground equipment safety, including design, materials and installation.
-
BS EN 1177 — the standard for playground surfacing, ensuring correct impact absorption for falls.
These standards set out requirements for everything from the height of slides to the spacing of climbing frames. By adhering to them, we ensure every child can play with confidence and every organisation can demonstrate compliance.

Safety for Schools
Schools face particular pressures when it comes to playground safety. A compliant playground reduces risk for staff and governors while supporting Ofsted’s focus on pupil wellbeing. We design safe zones for younger children, challenging but secure equipment for older pupils, and quiet spaces that allow for reflection and sensory play.
Safety for Councils and Community Groups
For councils and community organisations, safety is a matter of public trust. Residents expect play areas to be well maintained and hazard-free. We help councils manage that responsibility by providing robust designs, compliant installations and ongoing support that keeps play areas safe for the long term.
